The role of venture capital in healthcare innovation and the pathways available to physicians to participate as investors as well as advisors/consultants/entrepreneurs. Innovation is happening everywhere! Physicians are smart and talented. They understand science and innovation. They are busy and do not understand venture capital and how to be a part of this part of the economy. This course is an opportunity to learn from physicians who have been successful in the venture capital world.

Orrin Ailloni-Charas, MD, MBA., CEO and Managing Partner, Global Health Impact Fund (GHIF), a venture fund focused on investing in early-stage healthcare innovation.
Dr. Ailloni-Charas earned his MD at the NYU School of Medicine and earned his MBA from Columbia University. Â He completed his residency as a specialist in anesthesia at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Dr. Ailloni-Charas was the Vice President of Clinical Investments at AngelMD, where he developed an evaluation platform and funding process for healthcare startups as well as built a large network of experts to support due diligence and investment. Later he worked at RedCrow as Managing Director where he developed a comprehensive, qualitative and quantitative analytical platform for evaluating startups. He also produced and hosted a web-based show in partnership with NASDAQ which was focused on healthcare startups. Â Â Â
Chris Kager, MD., General Partner and Chief Medical Officer for the Global Health Impact Fund
Dr. Kager has an M.D degree from the University of Pennsylvania; he completed an internship and neurological surgery residency at the University of Cincinnati (Mayfield Clinic). In addition, he completed a complex spine surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. He remains in active clinical practice as a board-certified neurosurgeon, and currently holds the role of Chief of the Division of Neurosurgery at Lancaster General Hospital. Chris is an active investor in multiple sectors, with a focus on healthcare, technology, and hospitality verticals.
